Technique: Pierced Vellum

My order from the brand new Stampin' Up! catalogue arrived and I couldn't wait to rip open the new papers and have a little play... The Broadway Bound DSP has beautiful gold foil detailing and the Graceful Glass Designer Vellum is just so pretty... I had to stop everything to make something with them.... you know how it is. :)

I used my paper piercer and piercing mat to make holes in the background of the top vellum page between the bars of the page to give some extra texture behind the birds on the vellum sheet... I then attached the vellum to some basic black cardstock  with a piece of the new Balmy Blue Cardstock peeking out behind it to give the birds their own little patch of sky. Cute isn't it?

This technique will be my inspiration for the cards we make at my Technique based Make and Take on the 23rd of June ... sounds like fun, doesn't it?

While I was creating I remembered a challenge that I saw a few days ago ..... and who doesn't love rising to a good challenge? The challenge was to relate the layout somehow to the movie 'The Pursuit of Happiness' and there is one powerful scene in it where the dad (Will Smith) says to his Son, "Don't ever let someone tell you that you can't do something, not even me" and I thought it was such an important thing to say to my daughter ... and where better than in a scrapbooking page I've made for her?

The other requirement is to relate the word 'father' in page supplies so here goes... F=Fern fronds, A=Arrows T=Twine, H=Hearts, E=Enamel dots, R = Ribbon, Row of birds. Yay!!
