Technique: Dazzling Diamond Doily

This page was so much fun to make...don't you love the way these papers from Garden Impressions work together to let you feel like there is a beautiful sunny sky being reflected back in the water below?

To create the Melon Mambo lace panel that is across under the photo I used the Detailed Floral Thinlit up each end of it and ran it through the Big Shot twice ... since the photo is across the center of it you cannot see that the middle piece is just pain undecorated cardstock... Shhh! It's a bit sneaky don't you think?

Also, I wanted to add some sparkle in a classy kind of way so I used a paint brush to brush some Tombow Multi-Purpose Glue onto the white side of a retired Gold Doily and then sprinkled it with Dazzling Diamonds Glitter .... oh I love how it turned out it is so pretty and sparkly .. if only the camera could pick it up better for you to see!

I realize that I have used a retired doily in this layout ... if you don't have one you could either use some of the new Pearlized Doilies or else if you really wanted the more pointed shape of the old doilies ... maybe you could improvise with the large detailed flower from the May Flowers Framelit to try out this technique.

To make this page I had a look at some challenges and saw that Off the Rails had an inspirational image challenge and I thought it went well with the warm sunny summer challenge at Scrapping 4Fun because who wouldn't wish for summer weather for beach photos?!!? .... and Sketches in Thyme had a sketch that I thought was a lovely place to start... you must show me what you create if any of these inspire you. :) For papers I felt inspired by the Counterfit Kit Challenge ... the pinks and aqua and blue and yellowy-orange tones I thought were a good match for some of the Garden Impressions papers.

Layering Alphabet Edgelits

In our trip down from Darwin to Alice Springs it felt in some ways like we were in another country ... coming to terms with the crocodiles, hurricanes and curfew, oh my!

I thought the Layering Alphabet Edgelits would make a spectacular heading for some spectacular land formations. I cut the Rich Razzleberry and Petal Pink cardstock to 4 1/4" x 2" and then the alphabet letters snap into the angular edgelit and the edgelit has little grooves on it to help you to line the pieces of cardstock up just right. It's so pretty isn't it?

I think this Rich Razzleberry velvet ribbon might be my favourite ribbon so far from the new catalogue. I wonder what your thoughts are? At the moment it is a toss up for me between the Rich Razzleberry velvet ribbon and the Granny Apple Green Textured Ribbon.

This layout sketch is from Sketches in Thyme and the embellishment theme of Texture paste was a challenge from Lasting Memories to use stencils and texture paste ... and you all know how much I love using Texture paste ... especially when I can color it!

Kids and Fur Kids

I just love my puppy's thinking face with her tongue out as she works out how to do something ... in this case how to get off the bed now that she is the extra height of the surfboard as well as the bed it seems a bit too high for her comfort.

I was trying to get my mind around an ARTastic challenge that was based on the famous painting 'Milking Time' which is a beautiful country theme and I laughed to myself, "the closest my city kids come to milking time in the country these days is feeding time at the zoo" .. which is what we have called our dinner table sometimes as well as the actual experience of popping out to the zoo for the day. As I laughed to myself about it I thought... what not? And from that my scrapbooking page idea was born. I also liked the composition of this painting with the way that everything in this picture is kind of grouped in one little chunk altogether with things sprawling out predominately to one side of that... which reminded me a little of the single page sketch that I saw at Stick It Down... it was almost like the page built itself after that... you know how it is some days when you are in the zone and everything is just flowing for you? Nice!
